VGS’s Heat Pump Water Heater Contest Closed November 6, 2022

In celebration of VGS’s milestone 30th year as northwest Vermont’s thermal energy efficiency leader, VGS is giving away 3 electric heat pump water heaters. The contest was open until November 6, 2022. Three randomly drawn winners will be gifted an electric heat pump water heater that VGS will install free-of-charge in their residence. Winners will be announced shortly!

VGS began installing Heat Pump Water Heaters (HPWH) in 2022 as part of its effort to help reduce energy usage and cut carbon. This technology provides customers, and qualifying Vermonters in surrounding communities, some of the most energy efficient electric water heating technology available. Eligibility: 

Each entrant is eligible for 1 entry. Upon submitting their information through an online form on VGS’s website, entrants attest: 

  1. They are within the territory where VGS currently installs heat pump water heaters.  
  2. That the dwelling is suitable for installation of a heat pump water heater, which has space requirements and can only be installed in certain settings. VGS will perform a pre-site inspection to ensure the resident has an appropriate location for the HPWH. 
  3. That the dwelling’s electrical capacity is suitable for installation and that capacity exists on the fuse box for the necessary electrical connections to be made. 
  4. That the entrant accepts standard conditions of work being performed in their residence by VGS. 
  5. That the entrant agrees that VGS can use their name, likeness, and images/video of the home in promotional content, and that the same can be shared with reporters and through a press release. 

Failure to provide accurate information will be vetted after preliminary winner selection (see HPWH Giveaway Terms and Conditions below). 

30 Years of Working Together to Save Energy and Cut Carbon

VGS has provided warmth to Vermonters since it began connecting customers to its service in 1966. In 1992, VGS pioneered a program to upgrade and install efficient equipment in customers’ homes and businesses, which later led to VGS’s 2016 designation as one of Vermont’s three Energy Efficiency Utilities. Helping customers improve the efficiency of their homes and businesses is central to VGS’s climate goals and the state’s push to reduce GHG emissions and fight climate change. Heat Pump Water Heaters are a great tool to reduce carbon while heating water. We’re excited to celebrate 30 years of energy efficiency by providing this contest.

HPWH Giveaway Terms and Conditions 

Eligibility. Residences located in our Heat Pump Water Heater service territory are eligible for this giveaway. Search the map at https://vgsvt.com/savings/heat-pump-water-heaters/ to see if your address qualifies for VGS’s heat pump water heater program. Alternatively, call (802) 863-4511 to speak with a customer service representative about your eligibility. Entrants must be at least 18 years old, and winners will be required to provide a social security number for tax purposes. NO PURCHASE IS NECESSARY. A PURCHASE DOES NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. CHANCES OF WINNING WILL DEPEND ON THE NUMBER OF ENTRIES. This offer is void where prohibited by law. VGS employees and family members are ineligible.  

Note that VGS will only convey the HPWH to the record owner of the real property identified in the giveaway entry. An individual other than the record owner may enter the giveaway, but if chosen, the record owner will be required to enter VGS’s standard Purchase Agreement and accept ownership of the HPWH.

VGS must receive all entries, by either website entry or U.S. Mail, during the entry period, September 6, 2022, 12:00 AM EDT through November 6, 2022 11:59 PM EDT. One entry per residence. Entries made but not received by VGS during the entry period are void and VGS has no responsibility for them.    

Upon entry, entrants submit that:  

  • To the best of their knowledge, the dwelling is suitable for installation of an electric HPWH, which has space requirements and can only be installed in certain settings. 
  • To the best of their knowledge, the dwelling’s electrical capacity is suitable for installation and that capacity exists on the fuse box for the necessary electrical connections to be made;  
  • The entrant accepts standard conditions of work being performed in their residence by VGS and its contractors; and  
  • VGS may use the entrant’s name, likeness, and images of the home in promotional content, including through press releases and other communications with reporters.  

Prize Description. VGS will give away one electric Heat Pump Water Heater to each of three different winners. The exact HPWH given to each winner will depend on installation requirements for each winning residences, and will be selected accordingly by VGS in its sole discretion, but each will be one of the following models and approximate value:     

50 gallon$3,369 + applicable taxes
65 gallon$4,335 + applicable taxes

Standard HPWH installation is included for each of the three winners. Additionally, if VGS decides in its sole discretion that a new mixing valve, expansion tank, or condensate pump is required for installation, such necessary labor, materials, and equipment will also be included. No further labor, materials, or equipment will be included in the prize.  

Winner Selection. We will randomly select three potential winners on November 9, 2022, and will notify the potential winners on November 14, 2022, by phone. A site visit will be scheduled to determine technical install eligibility as soon as reasonably possible, and delivery and installation will follow shortly thereafter. If VGS cannot contact a potential winner, or installation is determined to be unsuitable, further potential winners will be randomly selected on or before December 14, 2022. 
 
IMPORTANT: IF, VGS DECIDES, IN ITS SOLE DISCRETION, THAT SELECTED RESIDENCES ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR INSTALLATION OF ANY OF THE HPWH MODELS LISTED ABOVE, ANOTHER POTENTIAL WINNER WILL BE CHOSEN AND VGS WILL HAVE NO FURTHER OBLIGATION TO THE ORIGINALLY SELECTED RESIDENCE. PARTICIPANTS MAY NOT GIFT THE HPWH TO ANOTHER RECIPIENT OR LOCATION.    

Potential winners will be required to: (a) pay taxes on the installed HPWH, (b) execute VGS’s standard Heat Pump Water Heater Purchase Agreement, which includes warranty, liability, and indemnification provisions, and (c) execute a publicity release. VGS will not maintain the HPWH following installation, but potential winners are welcome to contact VGS’s customer service representatives for service billed at our standard rates.    

Miscellaneous. Vermont Gas Systems, Inc. is the sole sponsor of this giveaway and has the exclusive power to interpret the rules and make any decisions regarding this giveaway. VGS’s decisions regarding all matters related to this giveaway are final and binding. Any conflicts associated with this giveaway will be governed by the laws of the State of Vermont, without application of conflicts of law, and all participants irrevocably submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Vermont.
