How We Restore Your Natural Gas Service
When service is interrupted, our top priority is restoring it safely and efficiently. Click on each step below to see what you can expect during the restoration process:
1. Ensuring Safety First
In the event of an unplanned outage, we work with local first responders to assess the situation and secure the area. A temporary evacuation may be necessary as part of the restoration process. Our goal is always to make the area safe so you can return to the area as soon as possible. If your gas meter is located inside your home or building, we may need your help to access it. In urgent situations, the local fire department may assist in gaining access.
2. Repairing Process
Next, we identify the source of the issue and may shut off gas service in the affected area. We confirm that all meters attached to buildings are turned off before making repairs. The duration of repairs depends on several factors. Underground repairs could involve excavating, and most can be completed within a few hours. In cases of more extensive damage, we may need to replace a section of the gas system, which can take longer.
3. Restoring Service & Relighting Equipment
Once repairs are complete, we begin the restoration process. Our technicians go door-to-door to gain admittance so they can relight appliances. Someone must be at the property for us to complete this step. If you’re not available, we’ll leave a door tag and ask that you contact us at (800) 639-8081 or (802) 863-4511 to arrange access. It should be noted that this can be lengthy process depending on the number of customers impacted and the availability of individuals to provide access to perform relights.
