On Friday, April 25, 2025, a third-party contractor struck one of VGS’s lines at the corner of Main Street and Church Street in Burlington, VT. VGS was notified at 9:47am. Crews were dispatched to the scene and shut off gas service in the area. Approximately 200 customers in the area experienced a temporary outage due to this incident. A map showing the extent of outages is provided below.
VGS teams have concluded repairs to the damaged line and are in the midst of restoring service for impacted customers. We appreciate your patience as we work to address this temporary outage.

Technicians are continuing to go door-to-door in the impacted area and are making steady progress to turn on gas appliances. If we attempt to contact you and you are not on site, we will leave a door tag with information for you to contact VGS to set up a time for restoration. With the conclusion of repairs, technicians are canvassing buildings in the impacted area to relight gas appliances. We have deployed a number of staff to the field to support restoration efforts. In order to restore service to customers as quickly and safely as possible, VGS teams must visit each customer premise two times to restore service. Our technicians make sure all impacted properties’ gas meters are turned off. Next, field teams prepare the system so it is ready for the reintroduction of gas supply. Once the system is fully energized, VGS technicians go door-to-door a second time to relight each customer’s gas appliances. If they do not reach the customer, they will leave a door tag with information for customers to contact VGS to set up a time for restoration.
