An excess flow valve (EFV) is a device that provides the benefit of automatically restricting the flow of natural gas to an underground service line if the line is broken or cut. Usually this damage is caused by excavation or digging. For over 25 years, VGS has proactively installed these EFVs on new service lines, in addition to other safety measures such as curb values and regulators that are already in use on the VGS system. Already over 70% of VGS’ service lines have this device installed.
If you would like to know whether or not there is an excess flow valve installed on your service, or would like to request having one installed, please send your name and service address to EFV@vermontgas.com.
