Call before you clear sewer lines.
If unable to visually verify that a “cross bore” blockage does not exist, Call Dig Safe 811 before attempting to clear a blockage beyond the outside wall of a building.
Call Dig Safe at 811 and request an emergency utility mark out. If utility markings cross the known path of the sewer line, it may be a cross bore blockage.
If you suspect a cross bore blockage.
DO NOT attempt to clear the blockage with a mechanical device or high-pressure water jet. Get help from the involved utility operator. VGS can be reached at (800) 639-8081.
If you suspect a natural gas leak.
- Leave and instruct others to leave the area.
- Call 911 and then VGS at (800) 639-8081.
- Do not operate any equipment & eliminate sources of ignition.
Sewer Inspection Notice for Homeowners
Vermont Gas is beginning a new phase of our legacy sewer inspection program. Our contractor, Hydromax USA, will be placing door hangers at homes where an inspection is needed. These inspections are part of our ongoing effort to ensure sewer line and gas line safety.
Why is this inspection needed at certain homes?
Hydromax uses a risk-based model that considers the type and age of gas lines and available information about nearby sewer systems. This helps identify areas where inspections are most beneficial. In many cases, inspections are completed from the sewer main with no homeowner involvement. However, in some situations, that method doesn’t provide a full view of the sewer line. When that happens, we follow up with a camera inspection from inside the home to confirm everything is safe.
This does not mean there is a known issue with your sewer line, it simply means we couldn’t complete the inspection from the outside and need to use an alternative method.
What to Expect:
- Hydromax is an authorized contractor working on behalf of Vermont Gas.
- This inspection is free to homeowners, VGS is covering the cost.
- The inspection takes about an hour and requires access to where the sewer exits your home.
- Homeowners can schedule an appointment using the link or phone number provided on the door hanger.
