Financing

Whether you’re planning a weatherization project or making other energy-related improvements to your home, financing can help spread costs over time. VGS offers financing solutions through trusted partners to help make energy upgrades more affordable and accessible.

Low-Interest Financing

Our lending partner, Green Mountain Credit Union, offers special financing for loan amounts up to $20,000 for a 5-year term. Longer term loans are available but annual percentage rate (APR) and other terms may vary.

0% APR financing on weatherization projects

  • Project financing can also include qualifying health & safety improvements required to complete a comprehensive weatherization project

5.99% APR financing on weatherization projects when including heat pumps

  • Project financing can also include other energy upgrades incurred by the homeowner, such as heat pumps

Weatherization Repayment Assistance Program (WRAP)

WRAP helps eligible customers finance weatherization improvements through convenient payments included on their VGS bill. Unlike traditional loans, repayment stays with the property’s gas meter if ownership changes.

VGS offers rebates and incentives to help reduce the upfront cost of energy-efficient equipment and weatherization projects. Explore the options below to learn about available savings and eligibility requirements.

Equipment Rebates

Vermont Gas has moved to a point-of-purchase “instant rebate” for efficient natural gas equipment. Instead of having to complete a form to request a rebate after equipment is installed, these amounts have already been applied to the price when your contractor purchases from a local distributor. We encourage all homeowners to confirm with their contractor that the rebate was applied to the final cost. Vermont Gas will be performing periodic verifications of installed equipment by requesting photos, invoices, or conducting inspections.

To qualify for a rebate, all equipment must be installed by a Vermont-licensed natural gas contractor. The State of Vermont maintains a list of licensed gas professionals and plumbing contractors.

Weatherization Rebates

VGS offers rebates for qualifying weatherization projects that improve home comfort, reduce energy use, and lower heating costs. Great incentives are currently available for comprehensive weatherization projects scheduled for completion by December 31, 2026. Incentive levels vary based on property type and household eligibility.

Vermont Gas rebates for qualifying weatherization projects based on household income levels:

*When tenants pay the Vermont Gas bill, the project is eligible for a 75% rebate (rebate paid to landlord)
**Households requesting the $9,500 rebate should complete an Income Verification Form and submit to Champlain Housing Trust to determine eligibility. Or share proof of elibility for 3SquaresVT, SNAP, Medicaid, the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP), or the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

50% rebate on a qualifying weatherization project up to $10,000

    • When tenants pay the Vermont Gas bill, the project is eligible for a 75% rebate (rebate paid to landlord)

    • Multi-family home incentives apply to 4 units or less. For multi-family homes over 4 units please contact us at efficiency@vermontgas.com

    • 75% rebate on a qualifying weatherization project up to $1,000 per unit

    • 75% rebate on duct sealing, roof, and belly insulation up to $4,875

    • 75% rebate on duct sealing and roof (or belly) insulation up to $2,850

    • 100% rebate is available for low-income qualified customers

Weatherization Rebates for Income-Qualified Households

VGS offers enhanced weatherization incentives for income-qualified homeowners to help reduce the cost of insulation, air sealing, and other energy-saving improvements. These upgrades can improve comfort, reduce energy waste, and lower energy costs while creating a healthier living environment.

Eligibility is based on household income, household size, and county of residence. Review the income guidelines below to determine whether your household may qualify for enhanced incentives.

Households Below 120% of Area Median Income

Income-qualified households with income below 120% of Area Median Income may be eligible for incentives covering 75% of project costs, up to $7,000.

Households Below 80% of Area Median Income

Households below 80% of Area Median Income may qualify for additional assistance.

  • Customers choosing to work with their own Building Performance Institute (BPI) contractor may be eligible for coverage of 90% of project costs, up to $9,500.
  • Eligible households may receive 100% of weatherization project costs covered through Champlain Valley Weatherization Services.

Terms and Conditions

  • To qualify for incentives and financing, a weatherization project must be performed by a BPI-certified contractor and achieve a minimum air leakage reduction of 10%.
  • Customers can phase their improvements in over time if desired, however the total rebate cap is fixed for individual properties.
  • Financing is subject to approval by Green Mountain Credit Union.
  • Rebates and financing offers subject to change. These offers are good through 12/31/2026.
