South Burlington, Vt. – As part of its commitment to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, VGS announced today it will partner with Energy Co-Op of Vermont, a member-owned cooperative, to offer its customers comprehensive energy solutions. VGS and Energy Co-Op of Vermont will work together to help customers find the right low-cost, low-carbon solution for their energy needs, including non-gas alternatives such as electric cold climate heat pumps, advanced wood heat systems, and other options in support of the State’s 90% renewable by 2050 plan.

In November 2019, VGS announced a bold vision to be among the first natural gas utilities in the country to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, with a near-term goal of a 30% greenhouse gas reduction in customers’ homes and businesses by 2030. To achieve its plan, partnerships with like-minded Vermont organizations, such as Energy Co-Op of Vermont, increase the choices customers have for how to be part of the movement to a cleaner energy future.

“Our partnership with Energy Co-Op of Vermont is one example of how VGS is creating new pathways for our customers to achieve their energy goals and fight climate change,” said Don Rendall, VGS President and CEO. “There is no single solution in our battle against global warming. This partnership gives our business and residential customers the tools they need to make informed decisions that fit their budget and energy needs. We are proud to be working with a great local company like Energy Co-Op of Vermont.”

The process is simple and requires no sign up or upfront costs to customers. VGS’ own energy efficiency team will act as a referral service to help customers access Energy Co-Op of Vermont’s expertise and services such as new equipment installations not currently performed by VGS.

“The Energy Co-op is pleased to partner with VGS to enhance the outreach to natural gas customers with products and services that will help more Vermonters ‘Use Less and Save More’,” said Brian Gray, General Manager of the Energy Co-op.

In addition to this partnership with Energy Co-Op of Vermont, VGS has crafted a pro-climate plan that includes major increases in its energy efficiency offerings, as well as expanding its first-in-the-nation renewable natural gas program, all while maintaining its commitment to affordability.

“Affordability is a foundational value here at VGS. In fact, our customers have seen their heating costs drop steadily over the last decade and we will not waiver from that commitment to ensure customers continue to see the value in our energy programs,” Rendall said.
